5 Ways to Overcome Procrastination

Procrastination is a common hindrance to success. When we put off doing what needs to be done we also postpone taking advantage of opportunities. It is very important that you become a person uses initiative rather than yielding to feelings of procrastination. Here are 5 ways to overcome procrastination.

Understand-See what is causing you to procrastinate. Get a grasp on why it is that you are doing it. Once you identify the cause. Eliminate it by replacing the reasons for hesitations with rewards for finishing the tasks in front of you. Give yourself reasons to get into the action mode. Think of the benefits you will receive from taking action.

Plan-Make a plan for completing tasks that you don't want to do. Prior planning makes the work flow smoother. Once you start you can begin striking the completed tasks off of your list. This is an exhilarating feeling. Once you get started you will not want to stop until your work is completed.

Start-The best way to defeat procrastination is to just start doing what you don't want to do. If you have been putting off doing tasks then the minute you start to working you will gain a degree of power that you didn't know that you had. You will have gotten the ball rolling. Sometimes that is all that it takes to permanently alter your state of inertia. Make taking action a habitual response to feelings of procrastination.

Work-Once you begin working keep it up. It is important that you establish consistent work habits. These habits hold the key to you overcoming procrastination. When you are in motion you tend to want to keep going. It is the stopping that causes you to begin procrastinating.

Enjoy- Have fun and enjoy the journey. Make what you have to so fun. If you have a big job to do think of all that you like about that job and dwell on these thoughts as you go about completing the tasks. Make a game of it. Have a countdown in which you look at each completed task as putting you another step closer to what you want.
