If you life is not all that you desire it to be, why isn't it? Only you can answer that question. Recently, I was watching a news show which featured Governor David Patterson, the 55th governor of New York. The news piece inspired me to do more-- to step my game up.
It also made me want to know more about this handsome man whose story inspired me to want more and do more. So, I did want most writers and educators like myself do-I researched Governor David Patterson on him. I learned a great deal about him and developed an even greater respect for him. When he was elected to represent Harlem in the New York Senate in 1985, he was 31 years old, making him the youngest Senator in Albany. In addition, he became the first non-white legislative leader. In 2007, David Patterson became the first African-American Lieutenant Governor of New York and in 2008, he became the first African-American governor.
Governor David Patterson, who is legally blind is a man who makes history. He also made history in 2004, when he made a speech at the Democratic National Convention, as this was the first time a legally blind person addressed the convention. Governor David Patterson reported spending sixty hours preparing his State of the State address.
Governor David Patterson is an accomplished man. He does not let the fact that he is visually impaired hinder him. As I think of his accomplishments, and evaluate the average person who has usage of their five senses, I have to wonder what is hindering the average American.
What is hindering you? Who is hindering you? This year I dare you to stand and decree with me, "Every stumbling block that is in my way, I will toss it to the side, jump over it, or kick it out of my way." This year step your game up.
