Impatient For Patience?

Many people lack patience. They are always in a hurry. You may fall into this category. If so, many additional problems can occur when you are impatient. You often miss good opportunities in life, because you are too anxious to take the time to conduct thorough research or wait. You may experience increased stress, because everyday is a hectic pace. More importantly, you rarely find time to enjoy the simple things in life.

Two saying come to mind. Good things come to those who wait and patience is a virtue. In our fast-paced world today, patience and tolerance are not encouraged - instead society feeds impatience. All you have to do is look around. We have technology that keeps things moving quickly. Not to mention, the United States is a culture of instant gratification. So how do you learn patience?

Unfortunately, most people learn patience the hard way. They find themselves in a situation where there is no other choice. In other words, the consequences of not being patient far outweighed your desire to hurry along. For instance, no impatient person will stay at a job they despise unless they had not choice. Odds are..another job isn't secured yet. So they are stuck. More than likely, they are becoming discouraged because they perceive the process is taking too long.

If you find yourself lacking patience there are several consequences you many want to consider:

- If you do not manage your impatience, you will lose out. More than likely you are more inclined to make rash decisions or to settle when there was something better waiting down the road.
- Learning patience helps improve your self control.
- Practicing patience helps eliminate self imposed stress.

Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet that will automatically transform you into a patient person. However, with practice developing patience becomes easier. Several ideas to assist you in this endeavor are:

- Set future goals and plans. Goals and plans help change your perspective as you learn to think about a broader base of time.
- Break tasks/goals into small manageable portions so that you always feel as if you're making progress.
- Learn to take deep breaths and count to 100 before you make quick decisions.
- Pray.
- Read the benefits others have reaped from exhibiting patience.

I'd like to leave you with the following poem:

Have patience with all things,
But chiefly have patience with yourself.
Do not lose courage in considering you own imperfections,
But instantly set about remedying them
-every day begin the task anew.
