We Can All Make a Difference

A wise person is he who does not spew reproachful recriminations about something they cannot fully fathom. Whether you were a pop fun or not the exploits of Michael Jackson were something that could only be described as mind blowing. I haven't been a fan of Michael Jackson but his impact and contribution to the world only requires an obnoxious frame of mind to try and play down.

We all know that when it comes to music we talk about taste and different cultures and people groups have tastes varying from one type of music to the other. We have music ranging from Religious, Hip hop, Rap, Jazz, Reggae, Funk, Country, Opera and the list is endless. Michael Jackson's music broke all those barriers and transcended culture and race to the extent that everywhere on the planet, the news of his departure left many hearts in pain. His memorial almost brought the whole world to a standstill.

To just catch a glimpse of his exploits, he sold more that 750 million copies of his music not to mention pirated ones. The United States of America's population is estimated at 300 million and Swaziland has about 1.1 million people. You can do the maths in terms of distributing those copies. There is need to have an open mind to appreciate the exploits of Michael Jackson. CNN devoted two hours of uninterrupted coverage to air the memorial this great man who ever lived on this planet. US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee announced the introduction of "House Resolution 600" which would, if passed, formally recognize "Michael Jackson as an American legend and musical icon, a world humanitarian." What an achievement!

It is true that there has never been anyone like the Pop Legend and there will never be. It is also my firm belief that on this planet there are others who shall equal and even surpass him in greatness, of course in other chosen fields of endeavor. You need to look into the within of yourself and come up with your best gifts and talents. Not only should you identify them but work on them with passion and grit until they reach their ultimate fruition. It is axiomatic that his journey was not a smooth one. He did not just start singing at the age of five and boom his carrier took off with no resistance and challenges. His life was surrounded by controversy and at other times rumour machines about him were sent into overdrive. The man did not swim upstream all his life. What is true is according to Rev Al Sharpton, "Michael never stopped, Michael never stopped, Michael never stopped!"

Every time that you make a conscious decision to pursue a worthwhile undertaking combinations of circumstances conspire to upset all your plans. No worthy cause is without its own fair share of obstacles but by sheer determination and resolute courage you will reach for the fulfillment of that goal. Henry Ford said about those obstacles, "Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals."

Every time you are faced with a temptation to quit, think about the end that you desire and out of that thought you turn on the dynamo and your determination is reignited. By quitting at the slightest provocation you have no idea what value you are contemplating to deprive the world of. If you work on yourself i.e. on your gifts and talents to the best of your ability and become the best that you can be who knows what difference you can make in this world?
